Azaj was a small character design project where I took video games, vampires and my culture and decided to mash them into one cohesive unit. I loved the way middle eastern patters are very geometric and I wanted to find a way to incorporate it into a futuristic style. Al-Qiyama is a chapter in the Quran which means the resurrection which was the main inspiration for this vampire. Gold reminds me of strength, and I used that to signify Azaj as a strong, fair, but fearful leader.
